Provisional licence requirements
You will need a provisional motorcycle licence or a provisional
motorcycle entitlement on your full car licence.
Compulsory basic training
Learn the basics of motorcycling in a safe
environment away from the road.
Practice and further training
Learners must display L-plates, may not ride on motorways and may not carry
pillion passengers. Learners aged 17-20 are restricted to motorcycles up to
125cc. Those aged 21+ may practise on larger machines while accompanied by
an approved motorcycle instructor on another bike in radio contact.
Motorcycle theory test
All learners must take this test at their local
Theory Test Centre. A pass is valid for 2 years.
Motorcycle Practical Test –Standard Motorcycle
Licence(17yrs+)
Take test on a motorcycle of between121cc –
125cc and capable of 100kph. After a successful test you may discard your
L-plates, carry a pillion passenger and use the motorways. You will be restricted
to machines with up to 33.3bhp for 2 years. Many Suzuki machines can be restricted
to comply with this restriction.
Motorcycle Practical Test –Direct Access (21yrs
+)
Riders aged 21 years and over may take their
test on a motorcycle with a power output of at least 46.6bhp and must be accompanied
by an approved motorcycle Instructor on another bike. After passing the test
you may discard your L-plates and carry a pillion passenger. Riders will have
an unrestricted licence.
