Direct Access Scheme
===================
The direct way to gaining a full motorcycle licence.
Direct access scheme available at CMS-HIGHLAND since its introduction
in 1997. DAS as it is more commonly referred to, allows pupils that are over
21 years of age to train and test on bikes with a power output greater than
46.6 bhp. When you pass your test on these bikes you will have a full licence
with no power restrictions.

Under 21 can do the same course. The practical driving test will be sat on
a 125cc to gain an A2 restricted licence. This restricts the holder to a power
output not greater than 33 bhp for two years from the date of the test, after this period
the restriction automatically expires allowing the holder to ride any size machine with no
power restrictions.
--------------
NOTE: Pupils must have passed the theory and hazard preception test for motorcycles
before they can be put forward for the practical driving test.

THE NEW TEST
-----------------------
The new practical test is in two parts, Module I and then Module II

The new test will be completed in two Modules. The specified manoeuvres conducted at specific
speeds will be tested in Module I on safe off road sites and take an average 22 minutes.

These specified manoeuvres are:

On the day of the Module I test, candidates will be asked by the examiner to demonstrate their riding ability on either the left-hand or right-hand circuit.

Those candidates who have passed Module I will receive a test pass certificate which they must bring with them when they take Module II.

Module II of the test will be about 57 minutes in length and will consist of the eyesight test, road safety questions and at least 30 minutes of road riding, consisting of a road ride covering a variety of road and traffic conditions and will also include normal stops, hill and angle starts.

TRAINING COURSES
------------------------------

After completing the CBT the amount of training required to prepare for modules I and II will vary greatly from rider to rider.

Preparation for Module I will require specific training in the manoeuvres and a practice session on the DSA Motorcycle Manoeuvring Area (MMA).Currently the MMA is only available for training at weekends and this will dictate part of the training.

It is still early days but as a guide the old three day course is probably going to be three and a half to four days of training and the old five day course will become six days in total.

On completing the CBT one and a half days should prepare an experienced rider for the module one with a further one day required for the module two.

For a novice four and a half days after the CBT should be sufficient for the module one and one more day should do for the module two. Please call to discuss your experience and requirements
